KPI Alerting
Receive alerts when KPI severity changes in ITSI
- Enable alerting on a single key performance indicator in ITSI so you can be alerted when aggregate KPI threshold values change.
- ITSI generates notable events in Episode Review based on the alerting rules you configure.
- IT Service Intelligence uses the KPI Alerting Policy to group individual KPI alerts into episodes in Episode Review.
Path: Configuration -> Service -> open the service -> select the KPI -> Thresholding panel -> Enable KPI Alerting
Multi-KPI alerts are useful for correlating the status of multiple KPIs across multiple services. They help you identify causal relationships, investigate root cause, and provide insights into behaviors across your infrastructure.
Multi KPI Alert Types
- Status over time: Status over time alerts are multi-KPI alerts based on the severity level status of one or more KPIs. Status over time alerts require you to define one or more trigger conditions per selected KPI.
- Composite score: Composite KPI alerts are based on a composite score of all KPIs added to the alert. Unlike service health scores, which give you a weighted average of all KPIs in a service, composite KPI scores give you the weighted average of the selected subset of KPIs only.
Composite KPI scores are calculated from the KPI severity-level status and an importance value that you assign to the KPI when you create the alert.
Aggregate vs Maximum severity
- Aggregate: The aggregate value is the most recent value of the KPI as defined in a service’s KPI calculation settings.
- Maximum: Maximum Severity view shows the worst performing value for each KPI. It displays one of the following values:
- The value of the worst performing entity for the KPI.
- The aggregated value of all contributing entities, if this value is worse than the value of any single entity.
Ex: Service/Aggregate Calculation reports on the average percentage of free space across all contributing entities, if KPI split by entity.
- If a KPI is not split by entity, the Aggregate and Maximum Severity values for the KPI are the same.
